make sure it fits your needs
Excellent on bare floors. I'm not recommending it for carpets. This is the smartest bagless design I've seen; I didn't think I'd find a bagless I liked. Moreover, bagless is overrated because bags aren't much of an inconvenience at all. I researched on line and visited all the stores. Bed Bath & Beyond had this vac for the same price as Amazon- plus I could plug it in there and try it out for real.
Picks: Good dirt-collecting design for a bagless. Light weight. Good suction. Clever wand design detaches from the body for reaching awkward areas.
Pans: Cord is a little short. A little weak at the edge where the wall meets the floor.
This thing picks up cheerios and pet hair, paper clips, staples and anything else I don't want my baby to eat off the floor. It is used daily. The carpet brush is capable of picking up tracked-in debris on the large entry rugs and low pile area rugs. IMO it is too light to be effective on thick pile carpets- even on low pile it...

Great vacuum!!!
My wife and I purchased this vacuum mainly because it is lightweight and the reviews stated it doesn't loose suction. After using it for about a month of, it comes through on both fronts. It is easy to maneuver on the stairs, lightweight enough to lift up and down the stairs, and all the while not needing to be emptied often. It has functional features and is less expensive than a Dyson. Overall, a great vacuum and well worth the money.
Very powerful!
I just got this vacuum (from BB&B store because they have a 20%-off coupon = $130 total & I could carry it home instead of waiting for shipping to arrive) & I absolutely love it on my carpets!

It has surprisingly powerful suction for such a compact unit & I even bypassed the Navigator Lift Away (which I planned to get) in favor of this one because I liked how it performed even better than the Lift Away despite its smaller size. It lifts up the nap on my trampled carpets & makes them look new again. This vacuum pulls out so much dirt, dust, hair & fibers from my carpets that my old canister vacuum left behind. The beater brush (which has a button to turn off for use on bare floors) is fantastic.

The dirt cup is large enough capacity for my apt (2 bdrm, no stairs), it empties out easily, & the filter needs only occasional rinsing (every 3 mos of regular use) to maintain its wonderful strong suction. The hose is convertible & comes w/2 attachments which store on the...

Powerful and effective, but very bulky
We have two big dogs, a puppy, and a cat, so the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser looked perfect for us.

Pros:
The power and suction are very good.
The collector compartment is adequately sized.
The power cord is long (30 feet!), which is a big plus.

Cons:
It is very big and bulky.
The flip-down pet hair sweep is awkward to use.
The expandable attachment hose is difficult to remove and replace.

Overall opinion: The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser is powerful and effective, but it handles like a '57 Chevy!

It's only for carpet.
We have 5 long haired dogs and a completely carpeted lower floor. This vacuum has no option to stop the brush from spinning for doing hard floors, it's really only for carpet. The suction is pretty good, it got up a lot of hair, but the suction of the hose is terrible.

The directions for putting it together are just horrible, we had to look at the picture on the box and figure it out ourselves.

We have a Bissell Lift Off which I don't like the handle of, it's like a stick. This vacuum has a very nice handle.

That said, this vacuum whines. It's a constant low whine. I could stand it but it's constant and the lower floor is big. We have had similar whines on older machines but this one is brand new. Also, the manual is not for this model. It's for another model of this machine.
Much to do About Nothing
All Smoke & Mirrors - Another sub-standard product from Bissell. I have a Bissell rug shampooer which we have to take apart for EVERY room EVERY time we use it because the machine is so poorly designed it clogs.

The Bissell vaccum looks impressive when assembled but fails to work well. Rather than place the start button near the handle for easy access, Bissell has placed it half way down the machine - for an awkward reach.

Unless you're a prize fighter the vacuum is a bull to maneuver and so heavy its actually uncomfortable to use. As for the highly touted "pet hair" suction, forget it. The machine is not powerful enough to do a good job. The Bissell has 12 amps. Next time I'll get a Hoover.

The only positive is the nice long cord. Other than that, I'm looking to give it away.

Lindhaus Heathcare Pro - Highly Recommended.
When we bought a new (new to us) house in 2001, we bought a new vacuum as well. The house is approximately 3,000 square feet, and our old vacuum was running out of gas.

I thoroughly research any significant purchase - if I'm not happy with something it will usually end up being replaced, so it's cheaper buy right the first time.

When I was questioning the repair person in the rather large vacuum specialty store that fixed my old vacuum about what HE would buy for his family, he stated that he would buy a Lindhaus (I had never heard of them, and this store did not sell them). He gave a host of reasons including how well they worked, build quality, reliability, cost of ownership, etc. etc. Given that he spoke so highly of them, without even having the ability to sell me one, it seemed high praise indeed. I added them to my list to check out.

To cut to the chase: After much research and shopping amongst a number of brands, I bought a Lindhaus Healthcare...

Great Vacuum!!!!...
We've had ours for about 15 yrs...No repairs required, just change the bag and filter and keep on vacuuming. It is a bit on the heavy side but that's because it has two motors, a vac and beater bar motor (most have a single motor like the Oreck). It vacuums better then anything I've ever used (and I have had a collection over the years). We had a cheaper vac (Panasonic) it was good but lasted about 5 yrs. The Lindhaus is well worth the investment. I have an Electrolux and Oreck as well, this is the best by far but then again the others are lighter and one is a canister (Electrolux) we use it for base boards, etc. The Oreck is at our summer home and does a great job but is prone to burning out belts.

We have used a lindhaus vacuum for about 3 years now, and we're as satisfied as we can be. I'm the maintenance supervisor for a housing authority in central Kansas, and we use our machine daily. It's seen many miles of use, and has been very reliable. We've worn out about one beater bar a year, and had to replace a few belts, and it still keeps going. In our high rise, there's somewhere around 48,000 square feet of carpet, so we work the machine as hard or harder than most people would. Even though it may seem a little pricey, we feel we made a great investment!

Does not do the job :(
This vacuum is not good. Do not buy this vacuum if you have pets beause it does not pick up hair. If it pics up a little hair the vacuum "splits" it back out. Plus, it is a pain to empty, you have to stick your whole arm up the canister to clean it out. This vacuum also cloggs VERY easily.

I bought this vacuum in hopes it would suit my needs, such as just everyday vacuuming haa
it worked alright when i originally bought it and have had it just a few months today..
Let me just point out you must clean it out constantly to get it to pick up anything. I mean yeah if you want a cheap vacuum and a SECOND JOB buy this vacuum.
I honestly wish i bought something else but i got it on sale, oh well.
